Nestled in the industrial heart of North London, Drumsheds is a venue which is "the first dedicated culture space of this scale and kind". With its various levels and rooms, it has been renovated from an old IKEA, to now a 15,000 capacity super club. It's a groundbreaking entertainment venue, which defies convention and redefines the boundaries of what a music space can be. The team behind it has also managed well-known locations such as Manchester's Depot Mayfield, and London's Printworks and Magazine.
Where to stay
We stayed in an Airbnb nearby, even though we live in London, to save us journeying home late at night, after the event. The Airbnb was a small studio which had almost everything we needed for our one-night stay (except for an oven). It's a great place to stay if you're visiting Drumsheds, as the venue can be reached within 10 minutes by driving, or 30 minutes by walking. The decor was very unique and quirky with fairy lights, plants, an old phone, a big television, breakfast table, and a loft above the main floor which is accessed by stairs! The owner also offered a late check out, the next day, which was ideal.
How to get to Drumsheds
The venue is located in Tottenham. If you're not staying locally, the venue can be reached by train (Meridian Water Station), tube (Tottenham Court Road Underground), or bus (341, 192), or even taxi (you will be dropped at the taxi point and you will have to walk around).
The Space
A reformed industrial warehouse, which is now a 15,000 capacity venue, which designates a space for culture to thrive. Equipped with cutting edge sound and lighting systems, it offers an un-paralleled audiovisual experience for both artists and audiences alike.
The venue has a versatile layout - the main area is the X Room, but there are also other areas available to hire out for events, like the Y Room, Z room and The Gallery.
As you walk in the doors, you enter at the ground level, where locker hire is available, and there are lots of portaloos (pretty sure the only toilets in the whole venue).
The Yard, another area, but outdoors, was used for the TS5 festival, but I can imagine it being even better in the summer, and the ideal space to host parties, festivals and food markets, when the sun is out.
Why is a space like this important
Covid meant a hard hit to the night-time economy, and in the three years leading up to 2023, a third of nightclubs shut in the UK. But, Drumsheds is a space which rebuilds the anticipation around cultural music events in London - with it's hybrid-like structure, fitting various things into one large space. It serves as a catalyst for creativity and collaboration within the local community and beyond, fostering an ecosystem of talent and innovation.
And, its redevelopment of unused warehouses, is an inspirational approach to enhancing sustainability within the entertainment industry. By revitalising neglected, urban landscapes, the environmental impact, of a brand new construction, can be reduced.
